The drama was set earlier in the week when Trace Esports sent EDward Gaming to the lower bracket during the Upper Semifinals, turning the Grand Final into the ultimate revenge showdown.
The series kicked off with a nail-biter on Lotus that went into overtime. EDG stormed through the first half, but Trace Esports flipped the script with six consecutive rounds after the sides switched, snatching an 11-7 lead and eventually sealing the map in a tense overtime finish.
Bind followed that up with Trace Esports bursting out to a commanding 6-0 lead, only to see EDward Gaming dig deep and claw back momentum before dominating the later rounds for a hard-fought 13-11 victory.
Abyss was the mirror to Lotus’s back-and-forth energy, but this time EDG came out on top. Fracture map would be the statement win, ending the series 3-1 as EDG pounded Trace Esports 13-2 to secure three Championship Points for VCT 2025.
Both Trace Esports and EDward Gaming are now gearing up for their next challenge on the global stage at Masters Bangkok, kicking off on February 20th.
EDward Gaming Are More Than Just Champions
The success of EDG goes beyond the battlefield. They followed their VCT Champions victory with a 4-hour live shopping event on Douyin (TikTok China) that brought in a whopping $600,000 in revenue! Over 74,000 team bundles were sold, which clearly shows that popularity translates into business.
This isn’t their first taste of success. EDward Gaming boasts a rich history of esports dominance, including a League of Legends World Championship and an MSI title. They continue to expand their competitive roster across titles like Wild Rift, Arena of Valor, and Hearthstone.
The Road to Bangkok
With EDward Gaming securing their spot, the global stage is set to ignite! Europe’s VCT EMEA Kickoff Grand Final on February 9th will determine their representatives, with top contenders like FUT, Team Vitality, and Fnatic vying for a place at the top.
In the Americas, the competition is heating up. Cloud9 and FURIA have been eliminated, while the remaining contenders, 100 Thieves, NRG, KRÜ Esports, and 2Game, battle it out for a coveted spot. The Pacific League remains wide open with no eliminations yet.
